Year 6

Our topic for Summer 1 is ‘Dream Catchers’

In English: We will be developing our skills in writing narratives that contain action and perfecting our dialogue writing skills. We will practise using different sentence structures to help us achieve fast-paced action and write our own ‘quest’ themed narrative, drawing inspiration from our core book ‘The Silver Sword’.

In Maths: The first three weeks of term will be spent reminding the children what fantastic mathematicians they are. Please remember to support your child with their use of Mathletics and Times Tables Rockstars

In Reading we will be using our core book to explore how authors develop characters, create action-filled scenes and use language to convey meaning.

Our Science this term will be centred around a STEM project. STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. Children will be exploring flight and the forces at work during flight in order to design, create, test, evaluate and re-create a glider. Children will be drawing on lots of prior learning and knowledge to work in collaborative groups.

In RE we will be learning about Buddhism and the importance Buddhists place on compassion.

In PE: Children will take part in a range of Outdoor Adventurous Activities, aimed at developing problem solving and team building skills.
