Year 3

This half term in Year 3 we are learning about Early History. Througout this theme, we will be doing the following learning:

In English we will write a time travel story based on the text ‘Stone Age Boy’ and create story maps to help us to better understand the text. We will use drama and role play to support our learning and learn about fronted adverbials and adverbials of manner and include them in our stories. We also will write an encyclopaedia entry about a fictitious dragon. 

In Maths we will use pictograms, tally charts and bar charts to learn about data handling and explore numbers up to 100 and 1000 using place value and problem solving. We will count up and down in 50s and 100s and find 10 more, 10 less, 100 more and 100 less than a given a number. We will also use the partitioned column method to add and subtract numbers with up to three digits and problem solve using the partitioned column method.

In Science we will discuss what we already know about rocks and soils and compare and group different types of rocks. We will learn about and understand how fossils are formed and recognise what soil is made from and explore different types of soils in the Forest School.

In History we will use historical artefacts and sources to find out information about the past and place the Stone, Iron and Bronze Age on a timeline. We will discuss and consider how Stonehenge came to be and will learn about how and why early humans used fire. We will discuss the evolution of the hunter gatherer home focusing on Skara Brae.

In PE for Outdoor PE we will learn a variety of throwing and catching skills and apply them to the game of Basketball. In Indoor PE we will explore different Paralympic Sports.

In Computing we will learn about Internet Safety and recognise what websites are suitable for our age.
We will also be developing  our understanding of the World Wide Web.
