For this first half of the Summer Term we are now moving on to our new topic ‘RMS Titanic’, where we will be focusing our learning around the lives of the various people who travelled and worked on the famous vessel.
We enjoyed our Titanic Day where we used various sources to find out key facts about the Titanic, created a 3D porthole piece of art and explored the feelings of passengers through drama activities.
We will be developing our skills in writing dialogue and action when story writing. Our stories will be about a 1st class and 3rd class child who meet on-board the Titanic. We will also be writing newspaper reports about the sinking of the Titanic. The children will be looking at how the structure and language of a newspaper report can change the viewpoint of the reader.
In History, we will be using sources to deduce facts about the Titanic and finding out why the sinking of the Titanic was a significant moment in history. In Geography, we will be learning about the route of the Titanic and the reasons people chose to travel to America.
Science and Technology
Our Science topic is ‘Earth and Space’. We will be learning about the similarities and differences in the size, position and movement of the Sun, Earth and Moon. We will be making sundials to investigate why the sun appears to move across the sky. In Computing, we will be discussing how we could support peers who suffer cyber-bullying.
We will be consolidating our understanding of adding, subtracting fractions and multiplying fractions by integers. We will then move onto investigating length, mass and volume. We will solve problems that involve converting measures.
PE and Art
In PE, we will be learning how to play the Paralympic Sports, Goalball and Boccia. We will also be developing our athletics skills with Sports Day in mind. In Art, we will be learning how to draw using perspective lines and vanishing points.
RE, PSHE and RSE
In RE, we will be learning about the importance of the Synagogue in the Jewish faith and how the Shema tells Jews to keep their religion alive. We are looking forward to a virtual Q&A session to find out more about the life of a practising Jew. Our PSHE links to cyber-bulling in Computing.
