Year 3

This half term, we will be learning all about the Ancient Egyptians. We will listen to stories about the Egyptian gods and write our own versions of the story. We will also learn about important Egyptian rituals such as mummification!


What we will do:

  •  Read non-fiction books to find out information about Ancient Egypt.
  •  Write portal action stories based on the text ‘The Time Slip Scarab’.
  •  Use drama and role play to retell stories about the Egyptian gods.
  •  Write instructions for how to prepare an Egyptian mummy for the after-life.


What we will do:

  •  Recall previous times-tables (3, 4 and 8)
  •  Count in 6s and 12s and multiples of 100.
  •  Begin to learn the 6 times-tables.
  •  Identify equivalent fractions, solve fraction word problems and add/subtract fractions.
  •  Learn how to read an analogue and digital clock to the nearest minute.
  •  Learn how to read and write Roman numerals and record the time accurately.


What we will do:

  • Look at how light travels in a straight line.
  • Learn the properties of light and dark and recognise the importance of staying safe in the sun.
  • Investigate whether light can go around corners and record observations.
  • Present findings of reflection, light travel and what they have learnt through the topic.


What we will do:

  • Use historical artefacts and sources to find out information about the past.
  • Place the Ancient Egyptian time period on a timeline.
  • Find out about mummification and what was inside an ancient tomb.


What we will do:

  •  Locate where Egypt is on a world map and which continent it is in.
  • Understand why the River Nile was important to the Ancient Egyptians.


What we will do:

  •  Indoor PE – Adapting our activities so we can empathise with Paralympic athletes.
  • Outdoor PE – Practice our running technique, learning how to sprint effectively.

Design Technology

What we will do:

  • Look at the Egyptian ‘shaduf’ and its importance in ancient farming techniques.
  • Follow a set of instructions to build a shaduf.
  • Think about ways levers are used to improve the structure of a shaduf and make our own.


This half term in French, we will be learning how to say polite requests in French. We will also learn how to describe the colour(s) of an object, as well as follow a familiar story in French.


For this first half of the Summer Term we will be focusing on using their voice to vocalise rhythms and patterns.
