Year 2
In English, we will be focusing on writing a quest story with action this term. The skills we are learning will be the 4 sentence types (statement, exclamation, command and question) and possessive apostrophes. Later in the term we will be look at explanation texts. We will be recapping the subordinating conjunctions (because, if, that, when) and coordinating conjunctions (and, but, or).
In Mathematics, we will be learning about length and height and how to measure them using a ruler. The children will be learning about position, direction and rotation and we will also be learning how to tell the time to the nearest 5 minutes.
In Science this term, we will be learning about living things and their habitats. We will explore a range of habitats throughout the coming weeks, such as, the rainforests, deserts and the Polar regions. We will learn about the animals and plant life that live in these habitats. The children will use their comparison skills to compare familiar and unfamiliar habitats and we will also learn about food chains. The children will also take part in a scientific enquiry where they will identify, group and classify things that are living, dead and things that have never been alive.
In R.E this term we will be learning about the religion of Hinduism. We will learn about Hindu values such as, respect for all living things, caring for others and truthfulness. We will learn about how Hindus worship in a Mandir and identify ways in which Hindu beliefs are similar to other religious beliefs.
In P.E this term, we will be focusing on handball and cricket. ï‚· When learning about handball we will be learning the rules of the game and different passes within the game. ï‚· In cricket, we will be learning how to bowl and strike a ball with a bat.
