Year 3

In English we will look at read non-fiction books to find out information about Ancient Egypt and write portal action stories based on the text ‘The Time Slip Scarab’ .We will use drama and role play to retell stories about the Egyptian gods and read a discussion text and write our own ‘for or against’ argument.

In Mathematics, we will continue to recall previous times-tables (3, 4, 6 and 8). We will count in 6s and 12s and multiples of 100 and identify equivalent fractions, solve fraction word problems and add/subtract fractions. We will learn how to read an analogue and digital clock to the nearest minute. We will also take part in Maths Investigation Week.

In Science, we will learn what a plant needs to grow well. We will plant and tend to our own seeds and learn the names of parts of a flower and label a diagram of a flower correctly. We will understand the life cycle of a flowering plant and investigate how water travels through a plant

In History ‘Dig up’ historical artefacts and sources to find out information about the past. We will place the Ancient Egyptian time period on a timeline and find out about why the afterlife was so important to the ancient Egyptians. We will locate where Egypt is on a world map and which continent it is in and understand why the River Nile was important to the Ancient Egyptians.

In Art, we will explore Ancient Egyptian art and create paper using ancient techniques. We will draw and cut simple stencils to create a repeating pattern. We will also design, make and evaluate an Egyptian scroll.

In PE, we will learn to use a badminton racket to strike a shuttlecock and practise forehand and backhand strikes. We will continue with rounders and improve our throwing catching and striking techniques.

This term in Spanish, we will be learning how to say and write parts of the body and face. We will learn songs to help us remember the new vocabulary. We verbally describe ourselves and others and go on to write this as statements. 

This term we will be focusing on using our voice to vocalise rhythms and patterns and listening to the Bass/Middle/Melody of different pieces of music.
